Are You Ready for a Change? 30 Pilates Sessions to a Whole New Body!

"In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body"- Joseph Pilates

Have you heard this famous quote before? If yes, have you ever wondered if it’s true or just another marketing ploy promising fast results through some miraculous mumbo jumbo? Rest assured, that Pilates, when practiced correctly and with consistency delivers. Does that mean that you can take 30 classes in the course of a year, and totally recomp your body? Can you attend classes 1-2 times a week? No! You’ll still see results if you practice sporadically but to unlock your full potential, you must commit to 3-4 classes or privates a week and apply the principles you learn in class to your daily activities of working, driving, walking, sleeping, etc. It will take focus. It will take commitment. It will take dedication. Intrigued? Let’s dive deeper.

Pilates is a mind, body, and spirit approach based on the principles of centering, concentration, control, breath, and flow. During the first 10 sessions you will learn the principles of the system and start to move with correct postural techniques and breathwork. You will learn about the powerhouse and how to use it. In Pilates, we aim for the balance between strength and flexibility. Your balance will improve. Little aches and pains start to go away. You’ll start to wake up some smaller muscles that you may not have realized you have.

In 20 sessions you’ll start to stand taller. You’ll notice that you are stronger. Yes, Pilates builds functional strength! Your clothes will fit differently. Your muscles will be more defined This is when you’ll start to hear compliments People will ask you what’s your secret. Now, if you are carrying a lot of extra weight in bodyfat, some of those changes won’t be as visible (but it doesn’t mean they’re not there). It’s always important to fuel your body with proper nutrition and you will need to adjust your caloric intake depending on your desired results (more on that in a separate blog).

By 30 sessions it all starts to really come together. You will feel much stronger and much more flexible. Whether you’re carrying a bag of groceries or playing beach volleyball (yes, Pilates helps with all sports performance), you will feel equally relaxed and energized and start to see the potential of your body when aligned with mind and spirit.

What happens after 30 sessions? Don’t worry, you’ll continue to evolve and be challenged for sure! The magic of Pilates is that the more you practice, the “harder” it becomes. Unlike the gym where you constantly up the resistance (increase weights) and/or the volume (add more repetitions/exercises), making yourself prone to injury and overtaxing your nervous system, in Pilates, you learn to dig deeper, not heavier. The springs and your bodyweight are your resistance. The machines support you, while you build strength. Your joints will thank you and you’ll be able to remain active much longer, as you age.

Pilates several times a week is a good goal with active rest on the other days of the week.

So lets’ recap, the Renegade way! Pilates several times a week is a good goal with active rest on the other days of the week. What do we mean by active rest? Can I sit on the couch or at my desk all day slouched over and drive everywhere? No, no, and no! You want to keep moving! Whether that’s performing mobility exercises advised by us or a licensed physical therapist (don’t worry we know a few great ones), brisk walking, or some other form of low impact cardio, you want to apply the Pilates principles to your life. Now a lot of studios will tell you that you need to spend a lot of money and book a multitude of private sessions to get this kind of result so quickly! But is it really necessary? Maybe, maybe not. If you’re short on money (as many of us are post COVID) and you crave social interaction then you will find more joy in a small group class. If you’re short on time and fitting in 5-6 workouts a week creates stress and anxiety, is it worth it to force yourself? What if you have the time and the money? Well, that depends on your starting point and your goals. If you are dealing with mobility issues you may want to do Pilates (whether at the studio or at home) every day. As you get stronger and dig deeper your body will need longer to recover and you ideally want to practice full sessions of Pilates 3-4 days a week and active rest the remaining days.

Ok, this sounds great so far, but since everyone is starting from a different place (based on age, workout history, injuries, etc), how do I gain maximum results in a group setting? Ah, that’s where a good instructor comes into play. We are excited about Pilates and want to share the information with you. We don’t just tell you what to do. We explain it. We offer modifications so that you are in control at all times. As you start to integrate the movements and deepen your mind-body connection you learn how to make each exercise safer or more challenging and we are here to gently remind you each and every class. Joseph Pilates also said, “Everyone is the architect of their own life”. At Renegade Pilates we not only develop the blueprint, we show you how to read it!

Sounds great, but not sure where to start? That’s what we’re here for. Book a 30-minute complimentary session where we access where you’re at and where you want to be. We will recommend the perfect plan always taking monetary and lifestyle issues into account.
